The Kobophon

A feedback driven electro acoustic instrument

The Kobophon is an electroacoustic string instrument developed by Jakob Vasak, based on a closed acoustic feedback loop. It was conceived from the desire to create sonic worlds that cannot be traced back to a clearly identifiable instrumental source while remaining unmistakably physical. Through the controlled reintroduction of energy into the instrument’s body, it produces source-ambiguous yet physically plausible sound phenomena that exceed traditional instrumental categories.
